Bunnahabhain Moine PX finish 2020

Updated: Dec 27, 2020

A limited release of 1661 bottles, bottled at 50% ABV. Distilled on 05-Sep-1991 and bottled on 23-Jan-2020 at natural cask strength.

This Bunna, supposedly available for sale in early 2020 seems to have a staggered release in the market. Few appeared here and there but disappeared quickly. Heftily priced (£300 circa), this one is a finish PX cask and heavily peated.

Colour: Pale straw

Nose: A nutty profile, with sharp smoke (a burnt flavour), vanilla, some salinity, custard, and some caramel toffees.

Palate: Thick and luscious. Quite smoky. Some vanilla notes. Salted caramel. Very oily and the sweetness from PX cask. Not very harmonious but nice mix of flavours. Smokiness with salted caramel custard. Wild tree barks.

Finish: Long. The oakiness from 22+ years of maturation speaks. A peppery spice note. With some burnt sugar flavour.

Quite an intense, full bodied whisky. Moine in Gaelic means Peated. Bunnahabhain OB releases are unpeated, therefore such peated releases are good. Delicious and savoury.

After 3 months from the date of open, tried again. It was even better. Intense menthol flavours and some fresh coriander leaves.
