Paul John: Brilliance. 46% ABV.
Priced around £35 for a 1L bottle, this whisky ticks many boxes for an entry level whisky. Full of flavours & nice and easy to drink.
Colour: Copperish gold. No added colouring in this whisky.
Nose: Honey. Some oak spice. Sweetness. Mild fruitiness that’s reminiscent of tropical fruits.
Palate: Light. Silky. A tinch of oak spice. Honey. Some musk melon. Chocolate but only just. Not as mouth coating as I expected.
Finish: Short. Dry oak spice, sweetness and a bit of vanilla custard.
I have always felt ‘Classic select cask’ from Paul John is their best thats usually sold around £55/60. But, below that price, Brilliance sits quite comfortably. Very good whisky at this range. Easy & lovely to taste.
This is unpeated and casks are all ex bourbon barrels.
